IKEA beer. A little too functional?

23rd July

So IKEA have brewed a beer to go with the meatballs we all crave after a hard afternoon bickering over which curtains to buy, and building up to an evening self-assembling our new storage units.

As you can see, they have elected to go for a design that is the very opposite of try hard. Odd really, as they are well placed to build a ‘player’ brand. Kopparberg came to most of our notice via distribution in IKEA and now it’s rotting the teeth of an entire generation. Allegedly.

I think IKEA have missed a trick. If they were going to go basic, surely they should have gone the whole hog and used their trademark instruction manual style for the beer label. As it is, the design fails to connect with their house style or alternatively, a more generic mainstream style. I guess, and you can see this pun coming from several miles away, the IKEA beer design falls between two stools.
