Cats and dogs
11th June
I was chatting to a couple of interns in our New York office about the Jubilee and the amount of rain we were enjoying in England. One of them asked a really good question which I had no answer for: “So what’s the cool umbrella brand you all must have?” Given that it’s part of the British stereotype that we are permanently being rained upon it does seem curious that we have no ‘signature’ umbrella to go with the Hunter wellingtons. As a candidate might I propose the design above, the ‘blunt umbrella‘, which seems perfect for cramped London spaces where taking out an eye is always an occupational hazard of putting one’s rain cover up.
On roughly the same topic, the unnaturally tanned H&M models above have been ‘adjusted’ by someone who has cheekily added a Photoshop toolbar to the images. Another good example of why it’s worth keeping one’s communications in the realm of ‘truth well told’ rather than over egging the re-touching. Given the British weather at the moment, this particular advertising could only be an impossible fantasy at best. Happy Mondays…

Or how about these ‘tail’ umbrellas – practical and cheery for a rainy day… http://matomeno.com/10019.html

I too have seen the H&M ads all over the place. But there is a dissonance in them. The copy reads ‘Bikini Top’. But the photography quite clearly demands that you ‘look at my bottom’. As you say ‘an impossible fantasy’.
