A Merry Christmas to all our readers

21st December

The image above is a version of our new jkr livery, box fresh for Christmas. We traditionally take the last post of the year as time out from having an opinion or making an observation to simply say thank you to all those who regularly visit for a read here. You are why we bother, and we wish you a happy and prosperous 2013.

Over the holiday break we will post a selection from our first two Gazette books, which we have now put on Amazon. We wanted to give them away free, but ‘the man’ at Amazon or wherever requires we have to sell them at a minimal price. You can get them for pence/cents. In the UK go here, in the US go here.

It’s been an interesting learning curve converting them for Kindle – what a basic and unyielding format it seems to be to design on. Rather like the printing press before moveable type was developed. At a literary event on the future of books held as part of this years Edinburgh Festival a lot of smart authors noted that digital books will mutate the medium – mash ups, different mixes, live publishing, reader interaction, etc. etc. Basically content unbound from the restraints of time and space. All very bracing, but as a Designer it would be nice to think Kindle got a little more fluid with the basics just for now. Ahhh, an opinion after all.

Hope to see you in January, x

Cheers Silas. It’s been enlightening to read your views, thoughts and opinions over the past twelve months. Thanks for taking the time to keep us informed, amused and occasionally bemused! Here’s looking forward to the 2013 Design Gazette. Keep it up! Mike
